Been in Iraq for the last eight months and my tour is coming to a close. In a few days, I’ll be hopping on that outbound helo for Kuwait. Not sure when the next post will be as I’ll most likely be trying to catch up on some sorely needed family time.
Been a very busy seven months here in Iraq. Been a great job, but everyday has started to seem like Groundhog Day… But, now I’m about 30 days out of going home. Makes it pretty hard to focus on still getting the job done.
Now maybe I can get back to blogging…
This was a recent trip to South-Eastern Baghdad area. Behind me are the ruins of the Osirak Nuclear Facility; bombed by Iran during the Iran-Iraq war, Israel in the 1980’s and by the U.S. Forces during Operation Desert Storm.
I’m standing on a berm that surrounds the facility and what you see behind me are Iraqi workers and clean up crews clearing away the debris.
Just returned from a couple weeks stateside on vacation. Sure was a nice break from the dust and heat of Iraq. Did the ole family vacation stuff full tilt; Disneyland, Sea World, fishing, museums. A great time was had by all!
I’m now soliciting for facts-based, reasoned, supportable and peer-reviewed documentation that supports SCOTUS candidate Sotomayor’s belief that being female and hispanic allows her to reach better and wiser judiciary conclusions than a white male.
"I'm wiser cuz I'm a hispanic female"
Please submit to this website any academic research with statistical analysis and references to support her opinion.
In honor of my father, passed away this year. Served honorably in the United States Air Force and retired in 1979. God keep him and may he rest in peace.
Well, made through the last few months relatively unscathed, despite rising mortgage costs, unemployment and failed contracts. I’ve been offered a pretty cool gig in line with my career experiences and insight, unfortunately, the position will entail leaving the country for large blocks of time.
Rumor has it I’ll have Internet connectivity, a TV, small refrigerator and my own shower in my “foreign” domicile. No doubt having a lot of time to my self after work hours, I’ll be filling them up with blogging and video chats back home with the family.
I leave for the East Coast next week to start the process and flying out to my destination shortly after. Those of you who are really bored and actually read my posts/twitters can follow me there.
You can expect future content to still be humble political opinions, but will now add sanitized info on what I’m helping on – Operational Security considerations, y’know.
Things never turn out as hoped. When promises are made, arrangements let and belongings are packed, it is never a sure thing until your check is registered in the bank.
I’m in a bad case of limbo since leaving my last place of employment. There were to be follow on orders, which never materialized. There was to be an assignment, which was never funded.
So, this keyboard is most heavily used to draft resumes and cover letters; giving very scant time to fritter away on non-income producing endeavors.
Your patience is greatly appreciated until such time as I start working and no longer have to worry about paying the bills.
If I’ve done my research right, the last time our Regular Conventional Retail Gasoline price was this low was March of 2004. Makes driving home for Thanksgiving almost an option. Except home is California – that’s a four day drive!!!
Not only is today bitter because of the tragedy of seven years ago, but more so today because I just lost a very close friend. He’d been battling his demons since returning from Afghanistan, but they finally overcame him yesterday morning. I guess he felt he’d lost the battle and made a permanent solution to what could have been a temporary problem.
God bless you Dave!
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, [a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
Our dependence on foreign oil forms the intersection of the three most critical issues America currently faces: the economy, the environment and our national security.
There is a Solution
America is blessed with the world’s greatest wind power corridor and abundant reserves of clean natural gas. The Pickens Plan will utilize these tremendous resources to build a bridge to the future — a blueprint to reduce foreign oil dependence by harnessing domestic energy alternatives and buying time for us to develop even greater new technologies.
The Plan calls for building new wind generation facilities that will produce 20% of our nation’s electricity and allow us to use natural gas as a transportation fuel. The combination of these domestic energies can replace more than one-third of our foreign oil imports. And we can do it all in 10 years.

Spring seems to finally gotten here, weather warm, the sand volleyball court in my complex is teaming with young folks and I’m toying with trading my truck for a Harley. How does it look on me?
Secondly, got back on line with a new notebook complete with Window’s Vista (saving my opinion of it until I work through the new features). Managed to sync my blackberry through BlueTooth, too! Ain’t technology grand?
Lastly, packing up my reading list with some new titles:
The Pleasure of Hating (circa 1800) by William Hazlitt
The Starfish and the Spider (2006) by Brafman and Beckstrom
Freakonomics (2005) by Levitt and Dubner
I’ll have your book reports within the next week in case you might find the titles interesting. Stay tuned.
