Blogging Holiday

No doubt many of you have noticed my posting tapering off the last week or two.  That’s because I’ve been preoccupied with closing out my job here.

The last 5 days have been spent visiting the various departments out processing, finalizing pay, closing out my housing and turning in my equipment.

I’m headed back to Cali tomorrow to spend Christmas with the family and burn off the last of my leave until I get picked up for my newest job in Tampa.

Effective immediately, I’m on blog holiday, unless I feel an urge to post a note.  For those of you that follow my on Twitter, I’ll post my cross country blurbs.  But, I imagine you have to be pretty bored to do that.

Until then…

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

What was your favorite toy… #2

This one goes back, waaaay back.  Early ’70s I believe.  Memories of records cut out of the back of the Super Sugar Crisp box being played on my “close-n-play” (The song was Sugar, Sugar by the Archie’s)…

This thing goes for over $100.00 bucks now!

But the two that were my absolute faves and haven’t seen for over 35 years until I googled them tonight are Erik the Viking and his Armored horse. Read the rest of this entry »

Christmas Posting Series – What was your favorite toy when you were a kid?

Sitting here on a drizzly, pre-December day, after drowsing from my Sunday morning eggs, bacon, hash browns and gravy n biscuit breakfast, when I had a brain flash.

Enough of the political blogs, I’ll do a series on all my favorite Christmas toys I got while growing up.  So, here’s number 1 in the series…

The Big Jim Rescue Rig…

I’m back and it’s 2008?

Autopia DisneylandHave you noticed that as we get older time compresses?  Okay, maybe I have an amazing grasp of the obvious, but time just seems to be getting faster and faster.  Yesterday seems just minutes ago, last week like yesterday and 10 years ago seems like last year.  I pretty much feel this way all the time now, but the impression is far more poignant every time the calendar rolls over to a new year.

Didn’t mean to be gone so long, but I promised myself to stay away from the blog while on leave back in SoCal.  The intent was to focus on family and the holiday.  Worked pretty well too!  Here’s a re-cap of the last two weeks or so of a long deserved vacation…

Went to Disneyland; swiftly becoming an annual holiday ritual.  Household 6 got season passes for the kids and herself so they’ll probably be making monthly trips to the happiest place on earth.

Blackberry pearlEnjoying my brand new “refurb” Blackberry Pearl.  You think with an MBA in Technology Management that I’d be more hip on today’s techno-geekery, but sad to say it ain’t so.  Threw myself on Mama’s mercy and asked for a new phone for Christmas.  She shrewdly got me the BBP through an upgrade and I’m happy to have a new gadget.  It calls, IM’s, texts, plays MP3’s, syncs with email, contacts, calendars, tasks and notes with a QWERTY type keyboard and scroll ball.

Put my 15 year old daughter behind the wheel and gave her the first driving lesson ever.  What scared me was not her driving ability, which wasn’t too bad for a first effort, but the fact that she’s tall enough and old enough to drive.  Guess I better start thinking about getting her a car.  Do they make them solely out of rubber and go no faster than 15 miles per hour?

Been a great, but hectic two weeks.  But, now its back to work and the realities of the world.  So much has happened in two weeks, gonna take awhile to catch up…

Ye Olde Christmas Game…

 RudolphReindeerGames

If you love trivia and Christmas, here’s a great post by Writer Chick Talks that combines the best of both worlds…

Shoeing the Wild Mare is a traditional Christmas game that goes back to at least the early 17th century.

Follow the link for a lot more fun information on Christmas Trivia, history and “ye olde  games”.  I have a preponderance of useless information occupying my grey matter, but learned some new stuff here.
